Cancer counselling charity We Hear You (WHY) has been awarded £500 by Tesco through its 'Bags of Help' scheme, set up to assist charities providing services to people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Fundraising Manager (Grants and Philanthropy) Ruth Knagg said:
"We're delighted to have received this grant from Tesco - as a charity that supports people affected by cancer and life threatening conditions, it was clear that we should be supporting people coping with the impact of Covid-19. We've launched a free telephone crisis support service for people directly affected by the virus as well as continuing our counselling service via phone and online. Like most charities, the pandemic will have a huge impact on our community fundraising income, which is instrumental in helping raise the £5,000 per week it costs to run our services. So grants like this are more important than ever and will help us keep providing our services at a time when they're needed more than ever."
Tesco's Bags of Help scheme is run in partnership with Groundwork UK, a federation of charities working to combat disadvantage across the UK. The scheme is currently providing grants of £500 to charities and nonprofit organsiations across the UK to support their response to the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.
