Warminster Philharmonic Orchestra raised £700 for Frome-based cancer counselling charity We Hear You (WHY) at their summer concert ‘A Musical Adventure’ on Sunday 1st July.
Guests enjoyed an eclectic range of music from Hungarian dances to Pirates of the Caribbean, with a break for Pimms, fruit and cake. All the money from ticket sales, refreshments and a raffle on the night went to We Hear You, who provide free professional counselling to anyone affected or bereaved by cancer or a life threatening condition across Somerset, BANES and Wiltshire.
The orchestra was founded by conductor Amanda Williams in 2004 and provides a platform for local musicians of all ages and abilities. Amanda says:
‘The orchestra chose to support WHY through the recommendation of one of its musicians. Members of the orchestra have received support through WHY and as we were not aware of them it seemed very fitting to help raise awareness. In addition to raising £700.34 for WHY at the concert, the orchestra has now raised over £25,000 overall for charity, which is fantastic.’
Fundraising and Communications Manager Gemma Wilkes says ‘Thanks so much to Amanda and everyone at Warminster Philharmonic for supporting us. The fact that this donation has come about through the efforts of people who have accessed our service in the past is extra special. We’re always delighted to hear from anyone who’s willing to support WHY and will help you plan and run your event to make sure it’s a success.’
