"One minute tears are dripping off my chin, and the next minute I’m laughing. Rather hysterically. I take some deep breaths and fill my head with good thoughts." — Jill Miller, founder of We Hear You.

Today, we honour the life and legacy of Jill Miller, a woman whose resilience and empathy led her to create WHY, a lifeline for those affected by cancer. Jill’s own battle with cancer, spanning over two decades, filled her with the determination to ensure no one else would face their diagnosis alone.

The idea for the charity was born in a hospital room, where she realised a telephone helpline that would offer the comfort and support she felt was missing. That small vision grew into a vital organisation that has helped countless individuals find solace and strength in their darkest moments.

Jill’s life was one of both joy and hardship. She embraced the beauty of everyday moments while confronting the stark realities of illness, always with humour, grace, and courage. Whether she was swimming in the river with friends, laughing with family, or advocating for WHY’s mission, she lived fully—guided by the belief that love and community could lift others through the most trying times.

Lucy Kitchener, WHY’s CEO observed that, “Jill’s remarkable inner strength and compassion touched countless lives. She faced cancer with courage, always emphasizing that her journey was part of a greater purpose beyond herself. Jill’s legacy is at the heart of all we do at WHY: providing support to anyone affected by cancer remains central to our mission.”

On this day, we remember Jill not just for her contributions, but for the light she brought into the world. Her legacy lives on in the work of We Hear You, continuing to support and uplift those in need. Thank you, Jill, for your enduring kindness, bravery, and vision.
