Pupils at Hindhayes infant school in Street took part in a sponsored fun run on 23rd July in aid of We Hear You (WHY), a small charity that provides free professional counselling for children and adults affected by cancer or a life threatening condition.
Children from Reception, Year One and Year Two each ran a mile during the school day, led by young WHY volunteers Owen and Isabel, and received a wristband and certificate of participation, followed by a cake sale and ice pops donated by a local branch of ASDA. The event raised £855 for the charity. Fundraising Officer Helen White says: “We had such a lovely day at Hindhayes and we hope to visit the school again next year. We offer free one-to-one counselling for children and adults affected directly or indirectly by cancer or a life threatening condition in Street and are starting group counselling here in September 2019. We’re delighted to welcome several new volunteers from the Street area to our team and look forward to being involved with many more fundraising activities locally. We Hear You now provide 115 sessions of counselling every single week at a cost of more than £5,000 and we receive no central government funding, so events like these are absolutely vital. If your school, business or organisation could help us, either by volunteering for us or hosting an event of your own, we’d love to hear from you.”
