Why Cancer Counselling

Counselling charity We Hear You is offering free group therapy for people living with and beyond a diagnosis of cancer or other life threatening condition in Bath, Frome and Street this spring. The groups are facilitated by two professional counsellors and run for 12 weeks, with a theme set for each week’s discussion. The charity has offered one-to-one counselling for people affected by cancer or a life threatening condition since 1994 and added group therapy to its portfolio of services in 2017, thanks to a grant from Macmillan Cancer Support.

Cath Wilkins, Clinical Manager at WHY commented, ‘The positive impact of our one-to-one counselling service for people coping with cancer or a life threatening condition is beyond question and we’re proud to have provided support to people in the communities we serve for 25 years. However, we have found that it can also be extremely beneficial for people to share their experiences with those in similar situations, hence the launch of our group counselling service. Being able to express feelings in a safe and confidential environment facilitated by professional counsellors can provide a healing experience with opportunities for learning and self-growth. Our groups are a valuable addition to the services we offer and we are delighted to have secured funding for this important work from Macmillan.’

The next course of group therapy in Frome runs weekly on Wednesday mornings from 10.30 till 12pm in Frome Town Hall from 8th May to 24th July. The group in Street runs weekly at Crispin Community Centre on Tuesday evenings from 6pm to 7.30pm from 7th May until 23rd July. The third group runs from 7th May to 23rd July from 10.45am to 12.15pm at the New Oriel Hall in Larkhall.
